Since launching in March 2017, mtime has been a social enterprise with a focus on taking care of parents so that they can take care of their families. We do this by matching them with Moncierges, personal assistants who combine housekeeping and nannying tasks into one role. Our team is always working toward finding new ways of supporting families and one of them is using this blog as a platform to share the stories of our community. In today's story, we're sharing how we ensure that your Moncierge can flexibly do a mix of household tasks and childcare in one session.
When we hear from prospective clients, we commonly get asked two questions:
- What type of household help do I need?
- Can your Moncierges REALLY do that many tasks?
In a previous blog post, we answered the first question and you can check out our guide in choosing household help here. In this blog post, we'll answer the second question.
The answer to the second question is simple: YES! Our Moncierges are trained to complete a mixture of housekeeping and nannying tasks. Internally, we refer to Moncierge task areas as the 4C's: cooking, cleaning, chores and childcare. So that means that can do any and all of the following:
* General Cleaning
* Detailed Cleaning
* Meal Preparation
* Pick ups and Drop Offs
* Grocery Shopping and Errands
The reason our Moncierges are able to do such a wide mix of tasks is because they don't do it all at the same time. Instead, they are able to switch between tasks whenever you need them to, just like you would as a parent.
For example, we do not allow any task to be done at the same time as childcare. If you want to use your session for childcare, your Moncierge will devote their full attention to your children. So in the typical three hour session, many families will ask their Moncierge to come over at 2pm and do an hour of tidying. At 3pm, their Moncierge may be asked to go and pick up their kids from school, from which point the Moncierge will focus purely on childcare until mum or dad comes home from work. Once mum or dad is home and with the kids, the Moncierge may use the rest of the session to help make dinner.
Other families may want more tasks done, and therefore will ask for a session that is longer than three hours. For example, for a family getting five hours of help per session, the mix of tasks could consist of a one hour tidy, a three hour house clean and one hour of folding and ironing clothing. Generally speaking, the more time you have, the more tasks your Moncierge will be able to do for you.
Families who need help with meal preparation or cooking will be matched with one of our Moncierges who has stated that they are comfortable preparing food in a clients home. However, although all Moncierges have a food safety certificate, they are not trained cooks and cannot do meal planning. It is for this reason that you will need to provide a recipe and ingredients for any meals you would like them to help with.
It should also be noted that many of our Moncierges are not from Australia and therefore may not be familiar with some foods and will require guidance. In saying that, so long as you are comfortable guiding for the first few times, our Moncierges are comfortable helping! At mtime, we value diversity and the cultural exchanges that come with it, so it is common for our Moncierges prepare their traditional food for the families they're matched with alongside western meals.
For pick ups, drop offs and any other tasks you need doing that require driving, we'll do our best to match you with a Moncierge who has a car. When that isn't possible we ask our Moncierges to use our company rideshare accounts to travel and charge the cost to your account after the ride is finished (no markups). We find this method works especially well when it comes to pick ups, as the ride can be shared with mum or dad so that they know exactly when the kids have been collected and exactly when everyone is back at home.
Although the tasks we've listed in this post are the most popular ones, they are by no means the only things your Moncierge can do for you! Need help with life admin? Running errands? Or petcare?
